INDICATIONS:
Cara Breast Pump Assists mother when breast feeding. Manual bulb pump.
Cara Breast Pump use for withdrawing milk from the breast. Temporary use of a breast pump could be indicated to relieve engorgement, when breasts are so distended that the baby is unable to latch on, and when you are separated from your baby for short periods on an occasional basis. Long-term use of a breast pump is recommended when a mother wants to provide breastmilk for her premature or ill infant, until breastfeeding can be initiated or resumed. Long-term milk expression is also indicated when mother and baby are separated for long periods, when the mother returns to work, to increase milk production or induce lactation for an adopted baby.
DIRECTIONS:
Use as recommended by physician, or lactation consultant. Place a warm compress on the breast for a few minutes before beginning to pump. Moisten rim of the horn. Squeeze the bulb, and place horn directly over nipple of breast. (Open end of horn collector reservoir must be over nipple area. ) Gently release the bulb pressure. As you release the pressure you will feel a pulling sensation. (Do not release bulb pressure completely. ) Continue to squeeze and release pressure slowly, but rhythmically, until milk flow is observed in the horn.
Note: It does take a few minutes for the milk to flow from the breast, and it is important to relax. When horn is full of milk, release suction by compressing the bulb, or by pushing the breast from the horn with your finger. Note: Use the milk immediately or pour milk into a sterile container and refrigerate.
Cleaning, Disinfecting and Storage: Separate bulb from horn. Place parts, bulb and horn into a pan of boiling water for 20 minutes. Prevent the parts from direct contact with pan or utensil by using an insert, basket, or similar holder. Also, always have enough water in pan to maintain boiling procedure. After parts have been carefully removed from pan, and cooled, moisten the rim of the bulb opening before re-attaching bulb to horn. Air dry and store in cool dry place.
